When your project cannot wait for a standard cure

For many commercial and industrial projects, the programme determines the concrete mix.
Beulah regularly works with high early strength concrete where a slab needs to be built on, driven on or put back into use sooner than standard concrete would allow.
Depending on the engineered requirements, high early strength concrete may allow work to continue in around three days, and in some cases sooner.
The mix is designed before the pour, either to your engineer's specification or with support from Beulah's plant engineer.

Engineered Concrete & Additives - Overview:

Engineered concrete in Whakatane is mix design to engineered specification, with fibre reinforced concrete and admixtures dosed at the plant.
  • Strengths specified job by job, from 17.5 MPa through to 50 MPa
  • Mixes batched to your engineer's issued design, or worked up by our plant engineer
  • Concrete admixtures for Bay of Plenty sites include a concrete retarder for hot days and long pump runs, and a concrete accelerator for cold placement
  • A concrete plasticiser holds workability without water going in at the truck
  • Any move to replace mesh with fibre reinforced concrete rests with the project engineer
  • Lab testing runs through production, at least one test per 75 m³, quality assured to NZS 3104

Engineered concrete for projects that need strength sooner

  • High early strength concrete for faster project programmes
  • Mixes designed to your engineer's specification or with plant engineering support
  • Concrete available up to 50 MPa for higher-strength applications

High early strength concrete planned before the pour

High early strength concrete is one of the most common engineered mix requirements Beulah receives, particularly for commercial and industrial projects.
The key question is how quickly the concrete needs to reach the required strength. A project may need to support building work, vehicles, forklifts or other machinery sooner than a standard curing programme allows.
These requirements are established before batching so the mix can be designed around the required performance and project timing.
Where the project already has an engineer, Beulah can batch to the issued specification. Where additional mix design support is needed, Beulah's plant engineer can assist.

Fibre and additives to suit the engineered design

Fibre and other additives can form part of an engineered concrete mix where the project specification requires them.
Fibre may be included because it has been specified by the project engineer or requested for a particular application. Any decision about whether fibre can replace conventional reinforcement needs to be made by the project's engineer.
Other mix requirements can also be incorporated during batching where they form part of the approved design.
These requirements are confirmed before the pour so the concrete delivered to site matches the agreed specification.

Concrete strengths from standard grades to 50 MPa

Beulah supplies concrete across a wide range of strengths, with 20 to 25 MPa among the most common everyday orders and audited production capability up to 50 MPa.
Higher-strength concrete is used where the project demands greater structural performance, including applications such as industrial footings and bridge work.
The required MPa is determined by the project specification rather than simply choosing the strongest option available.
This allows the concrete mix to be matched to the actual strength and durability requirements of the job.

Testing and strength records for engineered projects

Engineered projects may require documented evidence that the concrete has achieved the specified strength.
Beulah operates under the Concrete NZ Plant Audit Scheme and is quality assured to NZS 3104, with regular production testing carried out by qualified lab technicians.
As part of its quality assurance requirements, Beulah completes testing throughout production, including the required testing frequency under the Plant Audit Scheme.
Where a project requires specific strength records or test results, this information can be supplied on request as a separately quoted service.

A high early strength mix can be built on or driven over in around three days, and sometimes the day after the pour, depending on the engineered design.

That decision sits with your project engineer. Fibre can be included when the engineered design calls for it, or when requested and approved for the project.

Yes. Where documented evidence is required, strength data and test results can be supplied on request and quoted as a separate service.

Supply starts at 17.5 MPa, 20 to 25 MPa covers most ready mix orders, and the plant is audited to 50 MPa for industrial footings and bridge work.
